Slide bolt locks mount on the inside and you operate them by hand. Side-entry deadbolts secure the walk-through door next to or built into the garage door. Each one breaks in its own way.

T-handles usually fail for one of two reasons. Either the lock cylinder wears out and the key won't turn anymore, or the connecting bars bend or pop loose from the handle mechanism.
